根據《ETS新托福考試官方指南》(TOEFL IBT Tips)，ETS對考生的建議是對所聽和所讀的材料都做好筆記，然后對原材料做好概括(summarize)、轉述(paraphrase)和引證(cite)，最后描述出所聽信息和所讀信息之間是如何相互關聯的。針對寫作任務中的問題，可以用幾種不同的方式來表達。
1.如果講座對閱讀文章里面的信息提出質疑，那么寫作任務通常是通過下列方式中的一個來表達：
1)Summarize the points made in the lecture，being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.(總結講座中的要點，解釋它們怎樣對閱讀文章中的具體要點提出質疑。)
2)Summarize the points made in the lecture.being sure to explain how they challenge specific claims/arguments made in the reading passage.(總結講座中的要點，解釋它們怎樣對閱讀文章中的具體主張/論據提出駁斥。)
3)Summarize the points made in the lecture，being sure to specifically explain how they answer the problems raised in the reading passage.(總結講座中的要點，具體解釋它們怎樣回答閱讀文章中提出的問題。)
