　　The Qixi Festival, observed on the seventh day of theseventh lunar month, is also called "Begging farSkills Festival". There are many folk legends as to theorigin of the Qixi Festival in China, but the story ofCowherd and Weaver Girl is the most widelycirculated one. It is said that they meet each other on that day annually on the magpie bridge.Therefore, it is the most romantic festival among all Chinese traditional festivals and oftenregarded as Chinese Valentine's Day. The main folk custom for the Qixi Festival is that girls takepart in a variety of activities to beg for skills. Weaver Girl was said to be pretty, intelligentand ingenious, so on the eve of the festival, girls would get together to pray to Weaver Girl foringenious skills, which is called "skills-begging".
