書面表達:

Dear Cathy,

I’m writing to thank you for your good service and kind help, which made my stay in Singapore a pleasant memory.

First of all, I appreciate your careful arrangements, which made the exchange activity a complete success. You are so skilled at introducing the scenery and history of Singapore that I now have a clear picture of the country, What moved me most was that you took a lot of effort to get back my English novel, which I had left on the tourist bus.

I hope you’ll pay a visit to China one day and I’ll be delighted to be your guide. Thank you again for your excellent service and kindness.

Yours LiHua

Section A

Directions: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The

conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.

1. W: It is a wonderful night. Shall we have some champagne?

M: Not if you expect me to drive you home.

Q: Where does the conversation take place?

2. W: $100 to fix my air-conditioner? I thought you said you could do it for half the

price.

M: I did. But it seemed that it was not the problem with the plug. The major part inside the machine went wrong.

Q: How much should the woman pay the man?

3. W: Hi, I have a tourist map. But I still can?t find the entrance to the main gate of the palace.

M: Oh, it is an old map. Follow me. I am going that way myself.

Q: What is the man going to do?

4. W: It is so hot here in summer.

M: Hot? This is nothing compared with what I experienced in Hong Kong last year. Q: What does the man mean?

5. M: I wish I had seen the comedy in person.

W: Had I known that, I would have given you the ticket.

Q: What can we infer from the conversation?

6. M: Jenny, how do you feel about the life at college this year?

W: Much the same as the last.

Q: What does Jenny mean?

7. M: Did you attend the lecture by the Nobel Prize winner last night?

W: Yes, he shared his life experience with us. No wonder he has made such great achievement.

Q: What can we learn about the lecturer?

8. M: Our neighborhood is going to have a swimming pool soon.

W: It is about time. I don?t know why it has taken so long.

Q: What is the woman?s opinion about the swimming pool?

2

9. M: I don?t feel like going out. Why don?t we just stay at home and watch a football match on TV?

W: Come on. You promised to take me out for dinner and to the theatre on our wedding anniversary.

Q: What do we learn from the conversation?

10.M: Your sister looks thinner. Is she on a diet?

W: No, she just knows how to dress so as to make herself look thinner.

Q: Why does the man think the woman?s sister might be on a diet?

Section B

Directions: In Section B, you will hear two short passages, and you will be asked three questions on each of the passages. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.

Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage.

Many people think New York is a noisy city. Now even the insides of taxis are noisy. When you get into a taxi, you hear the voice of a well-known opera singer, sports

announcer or Broadway actress giving instructions. The voice of a famous person tells you what to do. One popular singer gives this message:"Cats have nine lives, but you have only one, so fasten your seat belt." Other voices say things such as "Don't forget to collect all your belongings." People often leave handbags, umbrellas in taxis.

There is a good reason for the messages. There are more than 12,000 taxis in New York, and every year taxis get into more than 15,000 accidents. In an accident, people who don't wear seat belts may easily get hurt. Every year about 11,000 people are injured in this way.

Many people are annoyed by the voices. Taxi drivers in particular dislike the

message. "I play the messages 12 hours a day. I hear the same voices 60 times a day. It makes me crazy," says Tom. "I am a 45-year-old taxi driver. But if I don't play the

messages, I get fined $100." A lot of passengers complain too. They think it is too noisy. Now listen again please.

Questions:

11. Why is the insides of taxis are noisy in New York?

12. How many taxis get into accidents every year in New York?

13. What will happen if the taxi driver doesn't play the message?

Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.

There are many advantages for the social science major because this high-tech “Information Age” demands people who are flexible and who have good communication skills.

3

In large companies, many social science majors take up important positions.

Research studies found that social science majors have achieved greater managerial success than those who had technical training or pre-professional courses. Moreover, social science majors are most suited to change, which meets the need of the high-speed world we now live in.

Social science majors are not only experiencing success in their long-term company jobs, but they are also finding jobs more easily. A study showed that many companies had filled a large percentage of their entry-level positions with social science graduates. The study also showed that the most popular quality in a person who was looking for a job was communication skills, noted as “very important” by 92 percent of the companies. Social science majors have these skills, often without knowing how important they are. It is probably due to these skills that they have been offered a wide variety of positions.

Finally, although some social science majors may still find it more difficult th((來自于:www.hN1C.coM 唯才 教育 網:高一英語報紙答案)an their technically trained classmates to land the first job, recent graduates report that they don?t regret their choice of study.

Now listen again please.

Questions:

14. Why can social science majors meet the need of the high-speed world?

15. What kind of people are welcomed by companies in the job market?

16. What is the main idea of this passage?

Section C

Directions: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet. Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.

M: Jenny, I hope you?ve finished packing and are ready to leave.

W: Not quite ready. I can?t find my passport.

M: Your passport? That?s the one thing you mustn?t leave behind.

W: I know. I haven?t lost it. I?ve packed it, but I can?t remember which bag it?s in. M: Well, you have to find it at the airport. Come on, the taxi is waiting.

W: The plane won?t leave until a quarter to four. Why in such a rush?

M: Now, you?re taking just one case, is that right?

W: No, there is one inside the bedroom as well.

M: What a lot of stuff! You?re taking enough for a year instead of a week.

W: Well, you can?t depend on the weather. It might be cold.

M: It?s never cold in Rome. Certainly not in May. Come on, we really must go.

W: Ok, I hope the passport can be found out at the airport.

Now listen again please.

4

Complete the form. Write ONE WORD for each answer.

Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation.

W: Right, well, in the studio this morning, for our interview is Peter Wilson. Peter works for Green Peace. So, Peter, welcome.

M: Thanks a lot. It?s good to be here.

W: Great! Now, Peter, perhaps you can tell us something about Green Peace and your job there. When was the organization established?

M: It was established a decade ago and the headquarters is located in London. W: What kind of organization is Green Peace then? What is its major task?

M: Well, we?re a non-violent, non-political organization. We?re involved in anti-nuclear activity, conservation and protection of animals and protection and support of our eco-system.

W: So, to be more specific, what are you in charge of?

M: I?m the action organizer and arrange the protests.

W: Great! A pretty important role, Peter. What sort of protest would you organize?

M: Well, recently we?ve been involved in anti-nuclear campaigns. Last week, I, personally arranged for the demonstration against radioactive waste dumping in the Atlantic Ocean. W: What is people?s reaction to your appeal? Do they support it?

M: Well, people may think differently of our methods but they do support us in different ways. There?s no doubt that we?re doing a great job.

W: Keep it up and good luck. And thanks for talking with us.

M: Thanks for having me.

Now listen again please.
