一、引導狀語從句
它們都可用來引導狀語從句(讓步狀語從句)，其大意為“無論什么(是誰、哪一個、什么時候、什么地方、如何)”等，相當于英語中的 no matter what (who, which, when, where, how)。如：
Whatever [No matter what] you say, I believe you. 無論你說什么，我都相信你。
Whoever [No matter who] telephones, tell them I’m out. 不管是誰打電話，都說我出去了。
Whichever [No matter which] day you come, I’ll be pleasedto see you. 無論你哪天來，我都歡迎。

三、注意“no matter+疑問詞”結構與“疑問詞+ever”在用法上的區別

2. 而“疑問詞+ever”還可以引導名詞性從句。如：Give this book to whoever likes it. 誰喜歡這本書就給誰吧。（這里不能用no matter who。）
3. whoever既可引導名詞性從句，又有在從句中作主語、賓語、表語等；whomever也可引導名詞性從句，但只能在從句中作賓語。如：You may invite whomever you like.
